Ted Lasso's Hannah Waddingham shares if the show is ending after season 3

Has the show really blown its final whistle?

Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham appears to have confirmed the news that the Apple TV+ series will be ending after its third season.

The final whistle has been blown, folks.

Following actor and writer Brett Goldstein's admission that the story was originally planned as a three-season arc – and Jason Sudeikis' similar comments – Hannah has revealed that Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond are "seemingly" hanging up their boots.

Speaking to E! News, the Rebecca Welton actress admitted: "I mean, if there is something else going on, I genuinely don't know about it."

Adding that she had approached Jason about the comedy's impending end, Hannah said: "I asked him recently and he went, 'Yeah, I think so, for now'. And I was like, 'OK'. Just gently gutted."

And much like the rest of us, Hannah isn't quite ready to see Ted Lasso come to an end. "I don't want to hang up those boots. I love her," she said of her character Rebecca.

"She's my companion, she's my friend, and I love every inch of who he has created for me to play. And I will miss her like a friend."

There is still a glimmer of hope, however. Brendan Hunt, executive producer and the show's Coach Beard, recently suggested that this may not in fact be the end – and that there is a possibility of future episodes coming out of the locker.

"We have always seen it as some kind of three-beat thing," he explained. "Originally those three beats were more going to be modelled on what [the British] Office did – you know, six eps, a special, boom, we're done.

"We've certainly expanded those beats, but it does not mean that the whole kit and caboodle is getting chucked."

Ted Lasso seasons 1-2 are streaming now on Apple TV+. Season 3 is in production.
