Home and Away spoilers follow for UK viewers.
Home and Away's Nikau Parata faces a difficult situation on UK screens next week as his latest rescue has unexpected consequences.
Nikau has recently been appointed as a paid lifeguard for Summer Bay, keeping a close eye on the surfers and swimmers at the local beach.
In next week's episodes on Channel 5, Nikau catches up with his girlfriend Bella Nixon over the phone, hearing about her adventures in New York. However, he is soon interrupted by his lifeguard radio.
Nikau learns that there's a distressed swimmer down at the beach and he rushes off to deal with the situation.
With support from a team of fellow lifesavers, Nikau leads an emergency mission as he jumps into the beach's rescue boat to search for the swimmer, who has disappeared underwater.
While Nikau is at work, John Palmer keeps Naomi – the missing woman's sister – calm on the beach.
When the swimmer's head pops up before disappearing underwater again, Nikau is able to dive in and pull her out.
Nikau brings the now-lifeless woman back to shore, where he and John commence CPR.
There's relief all round when the woman starts breathing again and Nikau soon receives most of the credit for saving her life.
The following day, Naomi approaches Nikau and thanks him for rescuing her sister.
Naomi also takes Nikau by surprise by offering to take him out for a thank-you lunch.
Nikau politely declines as he has Bella on his mind, but John jumps in and accepts the invitation on his behalf.
John tells Nikau that Naomi is probably looking for closure after the traumatic incident.
Nikau worries that it could be misconstrued as a date, but John encourages him to relax and consider it part of his duties. But is this really the right thing to do?
Home and Away airs these scenes on Thursday, July 28 at 1.15pm on Channel 5 and 6pm on 5STAR. First-look screenings air at 6.30pm on 5STAR.
Selected classic episodes are available via Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
