Apple TV+ free trial – how to watch Apple TV free

Ted Lasso, Severance, The Shining Girls await…

There are a lot of streaming services out there. (Not that we're complaining – it's a golden age of high-quality TV content!) You've got your Netflix, you've got your Amazon Prime Video, there's Disney+, Paramount+, Britbox and more, all offering loads of great viewing delights. But you know about them already. You're here to learn more about AppleTV+.

The streaming service is a major priority for the tech company, as you can see by just how much they've spent on its initial offerings. While the content varies – as is the case for all streamers – none of it looks cheap.

So what can you expect to see? There's the ever-popular comedy Ted Lasso, in which Jason Sudeikis stars as an impossibly nice US sports coach hired (initially) by low-ranking British football team Richmond FC's owner to deliberately tank the business's value to spite her ex-husband, but who turns out to be absolutely brilliant at the job. Hearts will be warmed and Brett Goldstein (as gruff veteran player Roy Kent) will be massively fancied.

If you fancy something darker, try Ben Stiller's Severance, the existential mystery comedy drama in which Adam Scott, John Turturro and others agree to divide their brain between a half that only exists while they're at work, and a half that only exists outside, with neither side able to be aware of or communicate with the other. Sounds complicated but makes perfect sense when you see it.

There's also Taron Egerton's prison drama Black Bird, based on a true story in which he plays a convict who's promised leniency if he befriends a serial killer and establishes his complicity in unsolved crimes.

Other hits include time-travel serial-killer thriller The Shining Girls starring Elisabeth Moss, Jennifer Aniston's The Morning Show, David Attenborough's Prehistoric Planet and period drama The Essex Serpent, starring Tom Hiddleston and Claire Danes.

Is Apple TV free? How much is Apple TV per month?

Well, it is free and it isn't. What we mean to say is that you can watch it free for a while, but there is a subscription fee, as with most streamers. That fee is £4.99/$4.99 per month, which isn't a huge amount for what you could be getting. It's certainly cheaper than all the other streamers listed above.

But if you want to try before you buy – or are only really interested in one or two shows that you reckon you can binge fairly swiftly – there are a number of ways to do it.

First, you can opt into their seven-day free trial offer. The first week's free, and if you're not into what you find, then happy days, you cancel and part ways.

Another way to do it is to buy some Apple hardware. If you purchase a new iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV or Mac, you'll get Apple TV+ free for three months. Admittedly you're spending a fair wedge to get the tools, but if you're buying, say, an iPhone 13 anyway then consider the TV package a bonus at no extra cost.

If you're based in the US you can also get Apple TV+ free for a year with a T-Mobile plan.

If you fancy trying out all of Apple's media services, you can get a month of Apple One (Apple TV+, Apple Music, Apple Arcade, Apple News+) for no money at all, followed by a subscription fee of £14.95 per month.

There's more! If you sign up to Curry's Perks customer loyalty scheme you can get Apple TV+ free for three months.

New and existing Barclaycard holders can also get five months of Apple TV+ free alongside the rest of Apple One (offer expires July 19, 2022).
